…a house is not a home until you love where you live…

How to Get a High-End Kitchen Without a High-End Budget

High-end kitchens are an essential component of a modern luxury home. They’re stylish, elegant, convenient, and just beautiful to look at.

Fortunately, you don’t need a high-end budget to design a kitchen that checks every single one of these boxes. The key is starting with first principles you’re your design. What does that mean? We’re glad you asked. Start by thinking to yourself: What exactly is it about a high-end kitchen that I love so much? When you focus on specific details – instead of a vague, general idea of your new kitchen – the advantages you’re seeking become surprisingly accessible.

From here, you can assemble the kitchen of your dreams, piece by piece.

  • Ample Storage Space

Let’s start with the convenience aspect. When you really think about it, a key component of what makes high-end kitchens so high end is the openness of the countertops. You never see cooking tools and items all over the countertops of a high-end kitchen, right? Everything is put away, and only everyday items (like the coffeemaker) are visible if anything is.

Welcome to the wonder of hidden storage. You don’t necessarily need a lot of space to significantly expand your kitchen’s storage capabilities. For example, you can practically double the storage space of your cabinets by adding pull-out drawers, which also make items easier to retrieve. Similarly, you could also add toe kick drawers to the bottom of your cabinets, giving you even more space for pots, cooking pans, etc.

Add some electrical outlets inside of your cabinets and now you can have a pull out toaster, air fryer, stand mixer or any other appliance you may want to use.

    • Easy Navigability

Another thing we love about high-end kitchens is their ample space to move around. Believe it or not, you don’t need a lot of physical space to make your kitchen more efficient and easily navigable. You just need the right layout.

What we mean by the right layout is the kitchen triangle, which prioritizes seamless transitions between the three points of the triangle: the sink, the refrigerator, and the oven. The sink is usually positioned centrally. Now, imagine two diagonal lines from this point going to the left and right. That’s where your oven and refrigerator would be.

The kitchen triangle puts these three points close enough together for easy access, but not close enough to cause congestion. It also leaves plenty of space within the triangle, so you never feel cramped when preparing meals.

    • Stylish Materials and Finishes

Now for your kitchen’s appearance. High-end kitchens tend to feature expensive materials, like marble or hardwood. However, there are plenty of other materials out there that have the same appearance of real wood or stone, but also offer more considerably more durability.

Once you figure out what finishes you like, the next step is to spell out exactly what it is you like about them. Odds are, there will be more economical options that have the features you care about – and they could be more durable to boot.

    • Extensive Lighting

You might not notice it at first, but no high-end kitchen is complete without layered lighting. This is what makes a kitchen feel welcoming and alive. The right lighting can make even the most simple materials look luxurious.

Rather than relying on one giant source of lighting (like a chandelier), we recommend layering your lighting with a combination of ambient, task, and accent lighting. Here in Miami, many high-end homes accomplish this with recessed lighting, under-counter lighting, and large pendant lights as the focal point.

When it’s broken down into steps, designing a high-end kitchen on a budget doesn’t seem so outrageous, does it? We couldn’t agree more, and we’re happy to show you at Debowsky Design Group. If you’re ready to design a kitchen that makes your life easier, feel free to get in touch.
