…a house is not a home until you love where you live…

Top 5 Architectural Styles for Custom Homes in Miami We Expect To See This Year

When it comes the architectural style of homes, we say the best style is the one that puts a smile on your face as you pull into the driveway. Overall, we expect to see a continuation of traditional architectural styles in 2026 that is perfectly suited to Miami’s tropical climate and vibrant culture.

In a society that’s so focused on the future, you can’t blame people for embracing the calming familiarity of classic architecture in what we’re calling a sort of “back to basics” movement.

Mediterranean Revival

Mediterranean Revival architecture proliferated throughout Miami for the past century. Miamians from Aventura to Homestead are particularly attracted to the use of rustic textures, such as exposed rough-hewn wood beams and wrought-iron fixtures, that makes Mediterranean Revival both elegant and earthy – or warm and luxurious – at the same time.

Mediterranean Revival is also a popular choice in Miami because it emphasizes outdoor living with expansive patios, verandas, and gardens. The interior tends to feature open floor plans with large windows to take advantage of our plentiful natural light, encouraging socialization and relaxation.

Spanish Revival

Spanish Revival homes are known for their white or pastel stucco walls, and their clay-based red tile roofs. Both components are ideal for Miami’s climate because the tiles provide durability and insulation against the heat, and the stucco reflects sunlight to keep the interior cool. It’s no wonder Spanish Revival is in style.

Miamians are also attracted to the heavy ornamentation of Spanish Revival interiors, which tend to feature carved wooden doors, hand-painted tiles, decorative ironwork, and other intricate details that imbue character into each space.

Art Deco

Miami will forever be associated with its iconic Art Deco architecture, which is expected to stay en vogue in 2026. With its rounded streamlined forms and bold symmetry, Art Deco is a timeless gesture of luxury, sophistication, and taste. It stands out and beckons you to come inside, where you’ll find even more interesting geometric shapes and intricate ornamentation like zigzags and sunbursts.

Miami Modern

Like Art Deco, Miami Modern (a.k.a. “MiMo”) is a super recognizable architectural style in the Magic City. A combination of Art Deco and Mid-Century Modernism, MiMo typically includes a flat plane design, wood panel interiors and detailed stone accent walls. Another classic component are those purely decorative walls with circular, rectangular and lace-pattern cutouts you see on countless historic hotels and buildings here in Miami, often accompanied with boomerang angles and open-air walkways.

Just like Art Deco, MiMo typically features punchy color palettes, giving Miamians more room for expression. The main difference between MiMo and Art Deco is the latter’s asymmetry and rakish angles. This was seen as futuristic and tasteful when MiMo first became popular, something that still holds true today.

Coastal Contemporary

As long as Miami remains a tropical paradise (so, forever), the Coastal Contemporary home will be a go-to design . The exterior is designed to maximize natural light and offer unobstructed views through massive windows, glass facades and clean lines. Inside, you’ll find high ceilings and a large open floor plan allowing seamless transitions between spaces. Specifically, Coastal Contemporary homes feature large-sized rooms and living areas to promote socialization and relaxation. The idea is to feel like you’re laying out in the sun, even if you’re inside.
