The Quick and Easy Guide to Bathroom Hardware

When it comes to design, one of our favorite parts is designing the details. Typically, no matter the size of the bathroom that you are working with – every design choice will have a decided impact on the overall look and feel of the room.

Perhaps the most underthought detail in a bathroom is the hardware. Most people get caught up in the big items – sinks, tubs, tile choices and color schemes – but hardware is how you can really make a statement.

Bathroom hardware can change the entire look and feel of a space. Here are some things to consider when looking at hardware for your bathroom.

The Essentials for Selecting Bathroom Hardware
  1. Mixing Your Metals: Toss the old rule book out the window that says you need to stick to one type of metal in your bathroom. In fact, today, mixing metals is not only en vogue but actually encouraged. It helps provide more tone to the space and a luxurious feel. Don’t be afraid to go brushed gold and matte black, black and chrome, or to even do a combination of three metals!
  2. Pulls vs. Knobs: When it comes to your vanity, again consider rules to be more of a set of guidelines on where to use a pull vs a knob. For us, it’s what you are drawn to most. And again, for those of you who are bold enough – go for a combination of the two!
  3. Faucets: For sinks, there are probably a bajillion different options for different types of faucets. Our advice? Start with the color you want. Next, consider if you want the faucet to be attached to the countertop or the wall. Then, do you prefer widespread or single hole? Once you’ve gotten that far – then we get to go deep into the weeds on style, arch, height, handles, and so much more.
  4. Showerheads: Rain showers, hand showers, and body sprays – oh my! When it comes to the perfect shower experience, there are myriad different ways to set up your bathroom. Depending on the size and shape of your shower as well as the overall aesthetic you have in mind, you can set your hardware up to range from simple to ultra-modern digital spa and sauna situation.
